The Hill's are ALIVE!

So…Jared and I had been trying really hard to learn Austrian before we came….which sucks because apparently they speak German here.  Who knew!  We left Prague by train which was the first time either of us have ever traveled that way.  We had our own room because the 1st class car was almost empty.  It was really nice because it rocked me right to sleep.  Then I woke up and watched Lord of the Rings on the laptop with Jared.  It’s so weird seeing Liv Tyler in a movie since we know her so well now.  We were kinda like “Whhhat, ok Liv”.   I guess you have to know her to understand.
Once the train left Prague we went through some areas that looked like Gresham, but after getting into the Czech and Austrian countryside it was very pretty.  Honestly, it looks a lot like Oregon…but with 300 year old stone farm houses, red tiled roofs and church towers everywhere.
Salzburg is small and at the foothills of the Austrian Alps.  It looks just how you’d picture, a charming little town that’s surrounded by mountains.  There’s a big castle at the top of one of the mountains overlooking the entire town.  Today has been the warmest since we’ve been here, it was 75! I hope the weather is getting better for you guys at home.  We ate at a delicious Italian restaurant and had really good wine.  You may ask “Why would you eat Italian when you’ll be in Italy all next week?”  Well, almost every restaurant serves a mix of Italian and/or German.  Since we had our fair share of sausages and beef soaked in gravy while we were in Prague, spaghetti sounded good.  We’re going to try to see some of the sights tomorrow, maybe walk up to a castle or see the sound of music tour.

P.S.  We want to know the poodles side of the story Miguel.  What did you do to provoke it into giving you a knuckle sandwich?  Oh and Jared say’s “Go BLAZERS!”

  3. I'm glad you explained why you chose Italian. Of course, should you stumble across a Mexican restaurant, resist the urge to satisfy your curiosity! I had Mexican in Russia. BAD IDEA!!! Especially if you've ever actually been to Mexico. ...or Taco Bell.
Can't wait till the next post!!

  4. I ask myself that all the time- "Jessica, why are you at Olive Garden when you will be in Italy? Or why are you going to Gustav's when you will be in Germany for Octoberfest? Or why are you doing Irish Car Bombs at Kells when you are going to Ireland?" Then I look myself in the mirror. I slap myself and I say "Wake up you idiot! It's because you keep eating out all the time! Duh! If you just save your mo-" Sorry I gotta go- I hear a weird sound coming from the bedroom...sounds like a baby crying..odd.

  6. Funny I said the same thing about Oregon, when I first went to visit you guys... I kept bugging Shane to move up there, but then I remembered I didn't really like that rain all that much, and I might have just as well stay in Czecko if I wanted green grass and no timers next to shower... Jessica are you at my house?? I hear the same thing.... :o)

  7. Hey Euro trashies! Looks like fun. We miss you. The Blazers are going to lose this series. They are just dealying the inevitable. You guys look like raging alcoholics with all the beer pics. But Europeans treat alochol like water. Sounds like you are having a blast. Make sure to pich butts in Italy with everyone you meet. That is totally customary and considered RUDE if you don't do it to EVERYONE you meet. ha - peace out - Heather B

  8. Laura didn't you used to take the train from our house to visit Aunt Kathy in LA or was that Aunt Jainee? Also, you're forgetting that awesome train ride we all did in Yreka - two miles per hour in the sweltering heat. And you say you never traveled by train before...silly girl.
